the medical mechanic for your body aka the hood doc

Shawn Dalton-Bethea, MD Practice Owner

Being the pharmacist and the nurse as a kid, to 2 brothers and 1 sister, charted my path to becoming a medical doctor. During my time at Guilford College, where I obtained my BS in Biology and Minor in German (Greensboro, NC 1996), I was also the right winger (#14) on the 1994 women’s rugby championship team. I loved contact sports! I graduated with my medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine (Greensville, NC 2001). At ECU SOM, I was a Tae Kwon Do instructor.! It was a great way to blow off steam during medical school. I was co-chief resident (2004) at Sinai Hospital -University of Maryland (Baltimore, MD 2005), where I completed my physiatry (physical medicine & rehabilitation) residency. I’m joint & spine interventional pain management fellowship trained (Pottstown, PA 2006).

Since my relocation from PA back to NC in 2007, Jesus continues to bless me to be the best joint and spine pain interventionist in NC. I have the most experience in NC, since 2015, using orthobiologics, such as PRP (platelet rich plasma) to keep practice members, with joint and spine pain, out of the operating room, and enjoying their best life.! That’s what The Medical Mechanic does for her practice members.

Since 2016, I continue to be impressed with how integrative functional medicine approaches alters the course of many chronic diseases, as well as prevents diseases in the first place! Practice members continue to see success through their respective personalized wellness programs ( weight, hormones, energy, pain, sleep, depression, anxiety, etc.) As The Hood Doc, I look under your hood to get to the root of your health hurdles. This is very rewarding detective work.

God has blessed me to still be in private solo medical practice in Greensboro, NC for 13 years (August 2023). It’s not a cake walk! Practice started as Performance Spine & Sports Specialists 8/24/2010, but transitioned to Greensboro Rejuvenation 5/21/2016, The Center for Integrative Health & Wellness, since Greensboro Rejuvenation provides other non-pain relief related services, such as IV nutraceutical infusions, ozone (O3) and ultraviolet light (UV) therapy, wellness programs, natural hormone replacement therapy, etc.

Jesus brought me through traumatic brainstem (lowest part of the brain) and uppermost cervical spine injuries from the 1/5/2019 car accident AND through subsequent suboccipital craniotomy (The bottom underside of my skull was shaved down in order to create more room for my traumatically sagging brainstem.) with C1/2 fusion (The very TOP of my neck is fused; therefore I have significant side to side neck movement restrictions.) 12/17/19. I was mentally tired, READY TO DIE and see Jesus that day on the operating room table in St. Petersburg, FL. Instead, I woke up in the recovery room needing to urinate like a RACE HORSE! haha 6 hours of IV fluids will do that to you. Whew! I made it to the bathroom with my right hand on the IV pole, and my left hand tightly keeping the two parts of the back of my gown together, without urinating on myself or the bathroom floor! Haha It was obvious that Jesus’ plan for me was NOT to die that day. I will continue serving my local and virtual communities with excellence!
